We are six days away from the first day of Spring–finally! I’ve been busy prepping my garden beds, but I’ve also been busy updating my wardrobe with some flirty, feminine finds. I love dresses and skirts for Spring and Summer, and soft colors. Whites, pinks, peaches, golds, and of course leopard print is back on trend for 2019. And I never tire of floral patterns and ruffles! I’ve also been trying to stock up on hats and I’m still refreshing my nail polish collection since most of it was spoiled last summer when I let my house get up to 80 degrees during the day. The handful of bottles that didn’t get sticky have been moved to the refrigerator, and that is where they will stay from now on.
I thought I would take a moment to show you a couple of outfits I’ve put together for Spring, plus a few nail polish and lipstick colors I’ve chosen to kick off the season. Every one of the wardrobe pieces I’m going to share with you were purchased from ThredUP. The nail polish and lip colors all came from Target, but can be found at most drug stores. So without further adieu…
This outfit is my favorite so far! The sleeveless lace detail top is from H&M; leopard print skirt is PJK Patterson J. Kincaid; hat is Outdoor Research; tote bag is Macy’s; sandals are J. Crew, purchased last season. The tote bag I actually purchased specifically to use as a laptop bag, since I’m working on writing a book and will be taking it with me to the local coffee shop quite often to work. It just happens to be adorable with this outfit and lends the perfect touch of Spring!
For my next outfit, I found a yellow wrap dress with a cute little berry print from Easel, a pair of red heels to match the berries from Adrienne Vittadini, and a red Nine West bucket hat, new with tags still attached. Red is a little more bold than the rest of my Spring color scheme, but I love yellow and red with my red hair and I couldn’t pass up this combo. I love it, and can’t wait to wear it to the first farmer’s market of the season. If it happens to be a little chilly, I also purchased a 3/4 sleeve white cardigan from Halogen to wear over it.
Now for my nail colors! So far I’ve only picked up the Essie Gel Polish. I’ve never done the gel polish before because I’m nervous about it suffocating my nails. Even with regular nail polish, I end up needing to leave my nails bare once in a while because constantly wearing polish on them causes them to start peeling. The gel polish purchase was a bit of an experiment, so please stand by! I’ve added the color names to each bottle in the photo in case you’d like to try any of them. My color of the year is orange, but orange looks dreadful with my red hair. So I decided to go for a peach variation…a little orange mixed with a lot of pink! I have one gel, one regular polish, and one iridescent to try. The gel polish is in the twisted bottle. The others, I hope, are self-explanatory.
Lastly–my lip colors! One is a lighter variation of the deep berry color I use during winter, called Saucy Mauve in the L’Oreal Color Riche collection. It is one of my favorites and I actually wear it year-round, but I wear it most during Spring and Summer. The other is a gloss, which I admit I wear less frequently because I don’t like the stickiness of gloss as it starts to wear off. But if I need to wear a gloss, then the NYX butter gloss is my favorite. Keeping with my peach theme, I chose crème brulee, which is more of a nude and goes well with most any outfit.
Now all I need is some weather in the 70’s to rock the new duds, and it’s so close I can almost taste it! Happy Spring, everyone!
